Youkilis helps Red Sox Take the Series - Jenn

That two-run shot into the Tigers bullpen would give the Sox a 5-1 lead; enough to take the final game and the series and prove yet again what an asset the first baseman is to this team.

Youkilis has been amazing this series. Over the four games he got five hits, seven RBI's, and four homers. Those home runs tied him with Manny and Papi at seven so far for the season. The seven RBI's put him just one behind Oritz and four ahead of Manny. Who would've thunk?

On top of that, he's continued his errorless turn at first base, making the thought of him leaving the team a frightening one. It's shocking to think this could be his last year with the Sox. You read that right. Believe it or not, Youk only has a one-year contract.

He's 29 and he's one of the most important players of the team. We already know about his skill at first. He can cover third on a moment's notice and provide the same kind of defense he does at the opposite corner. He's batted in practically every spot available, from lead-off to clean-up, and he's currently hitting in the six spot. It doesn't matter where he is, he produces. And while Youkilis may not get on base every time he comes to bat, his on base percentage is the highest of the team (minus Sean Casey and Kevin Cash who've each played less than half the number of games the first baseman has).

This is my plea to Theo Epstein: look at Youk's contract now and make him offer he can't refuse. Please, get him off the market for at least the next four years. If this series isn't proof enough what a spectacular player he is, I don't know what will be. Take a good look at the goateed twenty-nine year old. Because if you don't, I guarantee another team will and they'll snatch him up without thinking twice.
