Well-One Less Worry!--Peter

Last night, both Jenn & I were worrying about Pap's two consecutive BS&L's. Tonight, he recovered. Throwing 20 pitches, 14 of them strikes, he pitched an inning of shutout ball, including 2 K's to get his 11th save of the season. However, the game was not all The Saver. The Diceman pitched through seven, getting a matching number of K's and limiting his walks to 3, all of them in the first couple of innings. One even came with the bases loaded, driving in a Twins run. Quite an improvement from his last outing in Detroit when he walked 8. Okajima got a Hold for a perfect 8th, cutting his ERA to 0.50, and, no--that's not a misprint.

On the offensive side, the Sox got 12 hits, including seven for extra bases. Of those, four were round trippers. The surprising thing about the HR's is that none, that's right, nada, came from Papi or Manny. True, both Lowell and Yooouk each put a ball in the cheap seats, but the others were season firsts for Coco and Lowrie. In the latter case, it was a career first.

The Sox broke on top in the second with a solo run--Youk's shot, but quickly gave it back on Dice's bases loaded BB. That's where things stayed until the fifth when the Twinkies picked up their second and final score. It was beginning to look as if this game would be a repeat in part of last night's from there as the Sox were stranding runners right and left. However, starting in the 7th they began to unlimber the lumber. All solo shots, Coco's and Lowrie's both came in the 7th and Lowell's, also a solo, came the very next inning.

Tomorrow: national telecast on ESPN's Sunday Game of the Week. See ya' in the evening.
